Furzehill is a rural hamlet just north of Wimborne Minster in the County of Dorset, England. It combines the benefits of a rural location with the town facilities of Wimborne only one mile away and the shops, cultural and seaside facilities of Poole and Bournemouth within eight miles.
Letter from David Smith (Furzehill 1940 to 1967)I WENT TO SCHOOL WITH KEITH WENTWORTH THE YOUNGER BROTHER OF KENNY WENTWORTH, OUR LEISURE OCCUPATION WAS GOING DOWN TO TO HIGH HALL TO THE RIVER ALLEN POACHING THE TROUT AND BRINGING THEM BACK TO A HOWERD CAVE WHO RAN THE FURZEHILL GENERAL STORE. HE WOULD SELL THEM FOR US TO THE LOCALS FOR SIXPENCE TO A SHILLING EACH DEPENDING ON THE SIZE. FURZEHILL WAS A VERY HAPPY VILLAGE; IT GAVE US YOUNGSTERS A TREMENDOUS CHILD HOOD AND UNTIL WE EMIGRATED TO AUSTRALIA IN 1967 IT WAS A PLACE WHERE ANY ONE WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY HAPPY TO SETTLE."
