FURZEHILL LOCAL ACTION FOR A SAFER HAMLET (FLASH)

VILLAGE PLAN 2003

PRODUCED WITH THE CONSENT. AND ON BEHALF OF THE RESIDENTS OF THE HAMLET OF FURZEHILL. DORSET.

The concerns raised during the survey in the Hamlet were:
  • Heavy and Medium Commercial Vehicles
  • Volume of Traffic
  • Speed of Traffic
  • Noise and Pollution
  • Traffic Calming Measures and Road Safety
  • Lane Widening
The residents felt these issues were a priority and that the authorities did not appreciate what a devastating effect they were having on the environment at Furzehill.

Further research was carried out to establish what authorities had done about similar problems in the county and also in other areas, with the emphasis on what worked.

Also locally situations were examined where these problems are not present and it was established that Furzehill has not been granted the same rights such as the monitoring of vehicle use and inclusion in local transport plans, particularly regarding access and use by heavy goods vehicles.

A Village Plan was compiled using the concepts laid out in the Countryside Agency web site and reference made to the document: 'Our Countryside: The Future, A Fair Deal for Rural England'.

Although the headings focus on traffic matters, when action is taken the whole environment for the Hamlet will improve and will become a better community for all who live here.
